Every truck consignment that Kombiverkehr shifts to rail saves 74 grams of the greenhouse gas CO2 per tonne and kilometer compared to pure road transport. Over long distances, just a few grams can amount to several hundred kilograms or even tons, as the following example shows. This is because rail transport of a trailer with a net load weight of 25 tons, which is transported more than 3,100 kilometers from Barcelona to Stockholm, requires around 70 percent less energy. And less energy ultimately means less CO2 is emitted. With the help of climate-friendly rail, this transport alone saves the environment 4.1 tons of carbon dioxide. In terms of other relevant pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons, shifting transport from road to rail also proves to be the most environmentally friendly mode of transportation compared to all other modes of transport. A result that is truly impressive!
